Wedding season is back!
Well the season is back in full swing. Bridal shows are done, and the weddings are pouring in. We're booking stuff 2 years out. Brides are shopping on style more then price which I find nice given today's economy. People still get married even with the economy in the tank. Love stops for nothing folks. :) We are setting up some portrait workshops soon. Spring will bring all the beautiful backdrops we've grown to love in the Willamette Valley. Check back soon for dates and venues. Has the rain stopped yet? :) Until next time.

How do I pick a wedding photographer.
I get asked this question a lot. There are 3 keys point to picking someone out. The first is style. This to me is the most important point. The second would be packages. Some offer a ala carte or just 3 to 4 packages. Or a mix of both. This can vary quite a bit. The third being value. I don't like the word price. Couples usually have a budget for photography. So they usually shop on value before style. It think working backwards from that is the best method. Browse the galleries of each. Pick the top 4 that fit your style. Then call and setup an appointment. This is important because you need to make sure you are compatible. This is for both parties. Make sure you ask some key questions.
- How many weddings have you shot in the last 3 years?
- Do you have a portfolio (not a website)- Album examples?
- Are you the actual photographer that will be there?
- Do you have backup equipment, and or a second shooter/assistant?
- What is the expected delivery time for proofs after the event?
True value is when you match your desired style with a price that is within reach.

Baby Amelia Staats
I had the pleasure to photograph one of the cutest babies I've been around in a long time. It was a simple shoot. One light, and one reflector. The mother (Kirsten) said she had taken hundreds of pictures of her daughter, but they never turned out this good. That will make any Pro's day. We continually strive to deliver more then a snapshot. We often do on-site shoots. Babies in their own environment will produce better images. Getting them right after a good nap always helps too.

Where are we?
Let's see. Since the last time I posted we started a Meetup for Salem shooters. http://www.meetup.com/salemphoto We started a photo sharing PHP Bulletin Board. http://salemoregonphotography.com/phpBB3 All of this on top of a already busy shooting schedule. I will make time to post more often.

Oregon Military Gala
http://www.oregonmilitarygala.org
I was reading the paper early last week and saw something about a fund raiser for Wounded Military Families. I had to see if I could help in some way. I'm a professional event photographer. I contacted Connie and asked if I could donate my time? She was elated to have another photographer. My first engagement was for the Medal of Honor guests at Rudy's the night before the Gala. I had never been in the presence of a Medal of Honor recipient, and there were 5 of them. WOW. It's quite a humbling experience. They weren't braggers. Very low key. My second engagement was at the Salem Convention Center the following day. I actually got time to talk with these guys. Something my 6 year old boy Joseph is very jealous of. He is 100% military and wanted to go. The one thing that stood out for me is that these guys just keep giving long after the awards have been dealt out. It's just part of their character. If you get a chance to go to this next year I would highly encourage it. It's about valor, sacrafice, and honor. Here's a link to my site with pictures.
